Coronavirus is now the disease to beat, and the best way to beat it is by boosting our immune system. The sign of a healthy body is a strong immune system that is able to fight against diseases of any sort.
Hello viewers and welcome to our blog post. This one promises to be as informative as the others, as we will be discussing how to detect a failing immune system.
Even though you have to support your immune system, how do you know your immune system is weak? For someone without any underlying health conditions, a lagging immune system can be detected if one notices poor sleeping patterns, stress, etc. Some of these factors lead to psychological and physical effects, and they may indicate a weak immune system.
It is very important to note that some of these signs and symptoms that will be discussed are not only specific to a weak immune system. They could also be caused by a number of health conditions.
Here is a little insight into some of the signs of a weak immune system and possible solutions
Constant colds and flu
It is the general idea that people who get frequent colds, pneumonia, and flu are actually having some issues with their immune systems. It is normal for adults to catch a cold or flu two or three times a year, and recover before two weeks’ time. Two weeks is the normal time it takes the body to develop antibodies for the fight against the flu or cold. But, if for any reason, the cases of flu or colds are more frequent or persist for more than two weeks, this could be a sign of a failing immune system.
Try visiting a doctor if you suffer persistent cases of flu and colds just to be safe. Also, support your body by reducing stress and eating nutritious diets. Supplements like vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, and other nutrients are a welcome addition.
Not enough sleep and frequent exhaustion
If by any chance you have a very different sleep pattern or you are not sleeping well enough at night, there is a big chance your immune system is struggling. Melatonin is a body hormone released when darkness can act as a vital immune mediator because it causes immune cells to become stronger. Inadequate sleep can suppress hormonal activities, making the immune system and antibodies less active.
Try getting at least seven or eight hours of sleep every night. Work with a strict bedtime pattern and reduce light exposure whenever you want to sleep. You may even consider magnesium supplements for improved sleep quality.
When you are depressed or have suffered a recent loss
Grief and depression are examples of other factors that can reduce immune functions. A recent field of immunology, which is called psychoneuroimmunology determines that there is a connection between the immune system and emotions. Mild depression among those that are more advanced in age can suppress the immune system. Also, feelings of isolation and loneliness have also been known to cause weakened immunity in some college students.
Try some factors like regular exercises and nutritious diets, as they have been known to help with emotional stress and mental health. But if they still persist, it may be time to engage the help of a professional.
If your skin feels itchy, slow to heal, or inflamed
Researches have shown that the skin is a good window into some of the things happening in the body, including the immune system. Immune systems have been known to determine the type of microorganisms that affect the risk of diseases and live on the skin. So, a weak immune system may show signs on the skin in the forms of poor wound healing, eczema, allergic reactions, bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, amongst other signs.
Try using gentle personal care products, keep the skin moisturized, and take more steps to improve your diet and reduce stress to boost the immune system.
There are many other signs of a weak immune system, but this blog looks at some of the most common. It is always advisable to see a professional whenever you are not feeling right. However, you do not have to let things get that bad. Live a healthy lifestyle, and you are good to go.
